Frequently asked questions
If you cannot find the answer to your question, contact podpora@motoe.cz.
Our stores and service arrangements described here are in the Czech Republic. Before using a vehicle abroad, check the rules for its exact category in the country where you will ride it.
-
Do I need motor liability insurance?
In the Czech Republic, the rules effective from 1 April 2024 generally cover motor vehicles with a maximum design speed above 25 km/h, or an operating weight above 25 kg together with a maximum design speed above 14 km/h. The actual vehicle category and any statutory exceptions matter. The vehicle operator is responsible for arranging the required insurance. Rules in other countries may differ.
Since 1 October 2024, Czech domestic insurance checks use online records. For journeys abroad, check the insurance documents accepted in the countries concerned.
For insurance assistance in the Czech Republic, contact Michal Blum (Allianz), +420 604 298 523, michal.blum@iallianz.cz, working days 9:00–18:00; or Jiří Bachmann (Kooperativa), jiri.bachmann@kooperativa.cz, working days 9:00–16:00. Availability for customers living abroad and the premium are assessed individually by the insurer.
The insurer may need the policyholder’s details, vehicle make, model, serial number or VIN, purchase or first-use date and the requested insurance start date. Ask the insurer which identification details are required for your country.
-
Can I ride an e-Babeta on the pavement?
Do not assume that a scooter may be ridden on a pedestrian pavement. Where you may ride depends on the vehicle classification and local traffic rules. The Czech FAQ describes pavements as reserved for pedestrians.
-
What is the minimum age for riding an electric scooter?
This depends on the model, its legal classification and the country of use. The Czech information for e-Babeta, e-Moped, e-Fichtl and Kobra gives a minimum age of 15. For other models, the appropriate driving licence may be required. Confirm the requirements for the exact vehicle and country before riding.
-
Can I try a vehicle before buying it?
Yes. Arrange a visit at one of our Czech test and collection points, or see our test rides. Please telephone before visiting. Locations and contacts are listed on Our stores.
-
What documents are supplied with an e-Babeta?
The Czech offer includes a Certificate of Conformity (COC) for vehicle identification and, where required, insurance and registration. A COC is not a universal exemption from registration or driving licence requirements. Ask us to confirm the documentation supplied with your exact model and check its acceptance in your country.
-
How long does charging take?
Charging time depends on the model, battery capacity and charger. Many models take approximately 4–8 hours; follow the instructions supplied with your particular battery and charger. Use the specified compatible charger and follow the manual for initial charging, disconnection and storage. Battery types have different charging requirements.
-
Can I buy a vehicle in instalments?
Financing is provided and assessed by a third-party provider. Contact us to discuss availability, the provider’s current conditions and any residence requirements. Approval is not automatic. For customers abroad, payment arrangements are agreed individually. See Shipping and payment.
-
The battery indicator does not light up when I turn the key to ON. What could be wrong?
Possible causes include a discharged battery, a disconnected accessible connector, a fuse problem or a circuit breaker set to OFF. Check the battery charge and the accessible controls and connections described in your manual, with the vehicle switched off. For fuse checks or electrical repairs beyond the manual’s user procedures, contact our authorised service.
-
The battery is connected, but the motor does not respond to the throttle or the speed is severely limited. What should I do?
A low battery charge, a throttle fault or a motor connection problem may be responsible. Charge the battery as instructed. If the problem continues, contact our service team.
-
Why has the riding range decreased?
Range depends on battery charge and condition, tyre pressure, load, hills, terrain, wind and riding style. Check the charge and the tyre pressure specified in the manual. If the loss of range is unusually large or sudden, contact our service team for assessment.
-
The charger indicator does not light up. What should I do?
Possible causes include a loose external connection, a fuse issue or a faulty charger. Check the accessible connections according to the manual. Do not open or repair the charger yourself; contact our service team if it does not operate correctly.
-
Do I need a helmet?
Helmet requirements depend on the vehicle category and the country where you ride. Use a helmet of the type and approval required for that vehicle. Do not assume that a bicycle helmet satisfies the requirements for every electric moped or motorcycle.
-
How many charging cycles can a battery last?
Battery life depends on its chemistry, model, charging cycles, use and storage. Refer to the specifications and instructions for your exact battery. An estimated cycle life is not a guarantee that every battery will achieve that number.
-
What warranty or statutory protection applies to a battery?
For consumer purchases of new goods, a defect that appears within two years of receipt can be reported under the applicable statutory rules. Normal wear and the natural loss of capacity caused by ordinary use are different from a defect. A battery claim is assessed on its actual cause; a claim is not automatically rejected because six months have passed. Any additional commercial guarantee is governed by its stated terms. See our Claims and warranty page and Terms and Conditions.
-
The scooter is switched on but does not move when I apply the throttle. What should I check?
Many models have a safety interlock that prevents riding while the side stand is down. Check the stand position and the operating procedure for your model. Do not bypass the interlock. If the problem persists, contact our authorised service.
